Value yourself as a Horseshoe or a Watch Spring?

value yourself

Value is determined by what you are able to make out of something, how do you value yourself?

Sienna Burch posted on LinkedIn about the various items you can make with a bar of iron.

A reminder to not let your value be determined by just one person’s opinion or just one knockdown or 100 knockdowns.

Throughout life, some will see your value as a horseshoe & some will see your value as a watch spring.

For your own peace… the bigger question that I urge you to ask yourself is… how do you value yourself?

Throughout life, some will see your value as a horseshoe & some will see your value as a watch spring.

What value system/s do you actually hold important?

Do you inadvertently wrap your value up on those views of your…

  • unethical Boss
  • destructive Hiring Managers
  • professional bodies that maybe are not that professional
  • negative Company behaviours that have ‘got in’
  • other peoples opinions that you would never have gone to for advice but it still stuck when they gave it
  • childhood unresolved feelings
  • events from throughout life that resonate
  • the behaviour of others to you in the industry…

Maybe you have not thought about it before?

Or maybe, just maybe, it has changed a bit over the years.

What value system/s do you actually hold important?

Step back and think about what is really important in the bigger scheme, what is important in 5, 10, 40 years time…?

  • Is it the value system of your family?

  • Is it the value system of your faith?

  • Is it the value system of the people you trust & go to for mentorship & advice?

  • Is it a combination of the above where you have built up your own value system?

What really matters… it might be different from what you previously thought, once you start to dig a little deeper and see you value yourself as a horseshoe, but you know you want to work up to valuing yourself as a watch spring…

What plans, steps, checks & balances can you put into your life to build this for yourself?

What reinforcements can you build into your life for backup when someone tries to diminish your value?
